«The realm of cryptocurrency is populated by individuals with a visionary mindset and a knack for creating new financial possibilities. It is an environment perfectly conducive to a monetary revolution, and I am thrilled to be actively involved in it. I find myself deeply passionate about phenomena such as peer-to-peer trading, voluntarism, and the concept of economic freedom. With my educational background in political science and public administration, I quickly fell in love with the Bitcoin revolution and its vast potential for financial empowerment and economic liberty.
My journey into the crypto community began in 2017 when I joined BTC.com as a content and community manager, specializing in wallets and mining operations. It was during this time that I began engaging with the vibrant crypto community. In April 2019, I took the leap and founded CryptoCanal, offering educational resources, organizing events, and providing consultancy services. Through CryptoCanal, I had the opportunity to collaborate with prominent market players such as OKEx, Bitcoin.com, Cyber Capital, and many others. In 2022, our efforts culminated in Devconnect Amsterdam, where we hosted our first major crypto conference, ETHDay, and DeFiDay. Inspired by the success of these events, we embarked on organizing our inaugural hackathon and conference, ETHDam.com, which focused on the themes of DeFi and privacy and took place in 2023. According to Eléonore, the genesis of her passion for crypto can be traced back to her experiences in Lebanon as part of a study exchange program. It was during this time that she encountered firsthand the stark realities of inequality. While she, as a privileged exchange student, could afford to purchase water to fill reservoirs, many local residents were deprived of this basic necessity due to financial constraints. The issue of access to essential resources, such as water, has plagued societies for centuries, and it was in this context that Eléonore recognized the parallels with financial services. She realized that, much like access to water, access to financial tools is often taken for granted by those fortunate enough to have traditional banking services readily available. However, for many individuals in developing countries, cryptocurrencies represent a lifeline, granting them access to vital financial services that were previously out of reach.
Eléonore’s trajectory took an unexpected turn when she applied for a position with the United Nations Development Program in Mongolia, only to have her plans interrupted by a fortuitous encounter at a Bitcoin-related meeting. This encounter proved to be transformative, as Eléonore immediately recognized the intriguing potential of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. She saw in them a solution to the inequality she had witnessed in Lebanon, a means to restore balance and provide essential services to those who had long been marginalized from traditional financial systems.
In November 2017, Eléonore began volunteering at various cryptocurrency and blockchain events. It was during this time that she learned a great deal by organizing and assisting in attracting attendees. She later became the content and community manager at BTC.com, which was a non-custodial wallet for Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) at the time. Eléonore was responsible for creating content for the wallet and its users.
In April 2019, Eléonore launched her own business: CryptoCanal, a platform offering consultancy services in education, business, and marketing for the crypto industry. Additionally, she worked on other projects in recent years, including an educational program called Crypto 101 specifically designed for the Lebanese audience. In Lebanon, Eléonore has many friends and feels a strong connection to this nation that is ready to embrace cryptocurrencies.
According to her, she wants to dedicate her life to something impressive. She is deeply interested in education, societal change, and the opportunity to offer people an alternative.
Eléonore also offers free monthly cryptocurrency classes open to everyone on the last Wednesday of each month. Furthermore, she started the podcast “Humans of Crypto” to shed light on the individuals behind the industry. Eléonore pays significant attention to gender issues and the experiences of women working in the crypto industry. According to her, many women work in the financial sector worldwide but may simply be unaware of the alternative offered by cryptocurrencies. However, the fact remains that there are significantly fewer women in the cryptocurrency field compared to men, and Eléonore believes the reasons are twofold. It boils down to education and the fact that when someone enters the crypto scene for the first time, it is predominantly male-dominated, which can discourage women. Nevertheless, she has had the pleasure of meeting several fantastic women in the industry who serve as true inspirations and mentors.
Eléonore acknowledges how enjoyable it is to work with women. According to her, they are reliable and always punctual. They fulfill their promises, carry out their work with quality, and value their colleagues’ time.
When asked for advice for women aspiring to work in the industry, Eléonore advises them not to be afraid to be themselves and speak up in meetings – no man has the same perspective. Being in an industry dominated by men inevitably affects women. Her advice to women is, “Don’t lose your femininity. Do you need to be a man to work in this industry? No, and don’t lose yourself in the process. In meetings, surrounded by guys all day, it’s easy to forget who you are. But more than ever, we need that ‘feminine touch.’ And it’s challenging – many women struggle with self-confidence, they can’t speak up. Just be yourself.”
Blank believes that if we build a new financial system, women should be part of the community and have a voice at every stage of the process.
